Meet Adam
February 2021
I’ve had a great start to 2021! Despite the pandemic I was offered a design position at Icon. Currently working from home the team have made me feel very welcome. Our 'buddy' scheme means I never feel isolated, the rest of the team are always on hand to give advice or just a friendly chat and I'm already getting stuck into creative campaign work for clients including Ffynone House School and Hodge Bank.
I originally trained as a teacher and worked in schools in London before returning to Wales to follow my passion for design and illustration! I gained a First Class (Hons) Degree in Illustration at University of Wales Trinity St David in Swansea before completing an MA in Graphic Communications at the University of South Wales.
I enjoy branding and often work on self initiated projects that reflect my interests. One of my favourite campaigns to-date has been my development of the Comber Eco Watches, a concept targeted at the ethically conscience surfer market.
I take inspiration from brands such as ‘Lush’, I’m a huge fan of the beauty brand. Aside from their sustainable products and vibrant branding, they deliver on the complete user experience with considerate packaging. They have developed packing peanuts called ‘Eco Pops’ which are compostable and biodegrade in water and soil, genius! I have enjoyed hours of fun with my daughter watching them dissolve and disappear down the plug hole with no impact on the environment, the joys of having a toddler!
I was born in Nottingham but grew up by the sea in Newport, West Wales and have gravitated back to living by the coast, 'Barrybados’* in fact, where I feel a strong connection between people and place, especially since starting my own family.
My other interests include photography. Oh, and I’m an avid collector of cameras! I use a Canon 5D Mk IV for digital photography which is normally in my bag but one of my other favourite cameras is the Pentax ME Super, 35 years old but still in perfect working order, and great for when I want to dabble with film.
Finally, I think I'm the only member of the Icon team without a pet... watch this space!
*Ok it's actually called Barry but 'Barrybados' is a popular nickname for the place, and yes it does have palm trees!
