Meet Kate!

Hey! I’m Kate Middleton; Designer, Dog lover and newest member of the Icon team!
In 2019 I graduated with a first-class honours’ degree in Graphic Communication from the University of South Wales. My final year at University had many standout moments that gave me the confidence and freedom to fully explore the type of design I love - the highlight being winning a D&AD (Design and Art Direction) New Blood Pencil 2019 for an interactive campaign I did for Microsoft Surface, definitely something I’ll never forget.
What motivates me? Using design to make a positive change in society. My campaign ‘Sex Education, Unfiltered’ is a strong example of this. Using design to break taboo’s and kickstart the much needed conversation about sex education amongst teenagers. The project used bright and bold illustrations creating a talking point and a campaign that was hard to ignore.
After completing my uni work I was heavily involved in the 2019 USW Grad Show. I enjoyed working on event design and organisation, seeing the show come to together and generate so much interest was another highlight for me and a great way to end my 3 years at USW.
Almost a year on I’d say that as a junior designer in a commercial environment, you constantly need to learn and develop fast. I’m passionate about working somewhere where I can try new things, to grow as a designer and add more strings to my bow. Working at Icon has allowed me to do this. I've learned a lot already, including expanding my digital and motion design skills and am looking forward to what the rest 2020 will bring!
