Founded in 1920, the centenary of Swansea University presented an opportunity to celebrate the University’s achievements and journey over the past 100 years whilst shining a spotlight on the bright future that lay ahead.

To mark this momentous occasion we were tasked to develop a Centenary logo to compliment the Swansea University crest.

As the lead design agency for Swansea University since 2003, we’d successfully undertaken a strategic logo and brand refresh in 2017 and were mindful of the history and heritage the logo represented and how this resonated with those associated with the university.

Clearly, the anniversary design needed to embody the purpose and values of the establishment, championing the achievements of the last 100 years whilst building a platform to the immediate and long term ambitions of Swansea.  

Following extensive stakeholder engagement, visuals developed around a contemporary reference to the beachfront location with the wave flowing through the 100 year mark. The zeros on the 100, connected by the wave represent infinite opportunities and the collective strength of the university built up over decades of strong partnerships and academic growth. 

Comprehensive guidelines articulated the application of the centenary logo, giving confidence to internal marketing teams from Alumni through to International on its application, ensuring a united communications approach through all the campaign’s touchpoints.
