Ryder Cup Wales
With all eyes on Wales for the Ryder Cup 2010, our creative campaign teed up Newport to take full advantage of the arrival of this prestigious global sporting event.
Working with the existing Visit Wales Ryder Cup marketing campaign, we aimed to help Newport 'own' the weeklong event. First we built on the wider campaign's copy-heavy approach, developing and adapting a series of compelling messages. Then, despite challenging deadlines and a huge volume of work, we brought the campaign to life across Newport and beyond.
We dressed the city, applying the campaign to everything from lampposts and bus ads, to billboards flanking all roads into Newport. It also found its way further afield, with a 48-sheet billboard towering over London's Hammersmith flyover. Supported by online ads, an e-marketing campaign and much more, it worked to a tee. The event was a huge success, with 244,000 visitors, global media coverage and a perfect showcase for Newport's ambitions. Hole in one.
