We like to think of ourselves as a sociable bunch and playing cards is up there on our lunchtime get together, especially when the thermometer drops in Winter.
This season, we've been inspired to create our own Christmas game featuring many of our much loved 'icons' with a few others added for a festive splash.
Our elves have been busy gifting the card game and we can confirm there's lots of ways to play!
The basic game is easy peasy:
1. Every player receives 1 card face down. The rest of the pack also stays face down in the centre of the table.
2. At the same time, every player turns their card face up. The first player to see a matching symbol calls it and wins the card and adds it to their personal pile.
3. Flip the next card in the centre bundle. The first player to spot a matching symbol collects the card. Continue until all cards are gone!
And yes, the aim of the game is to collect as many cards as possible!
Alternative game plays-
'All to Nothing' Version
1. The aim of this game version is to get rid of ALL your cards first.
2. In this version, all the cards bar 1 are dealt to the players. Similarly to SNAP, they need to be distributed face down (no looking!) with the remaining card placed face up in the centre of the table.
3. The winner is the first person to get rid of all their cards- wohoo!
Santa 'Don't' Stop Here! Version
1. Every player receives a card (face down). The remaining cards are placed in a stack in the centre.
2. Dealer turns the top card in the stack face up. At the same time, all players turn over their individual card, laying it flat for everyone to see.
3. The first person to spot an icon match on another person's card and the centre card calls out.
4. The centre card is given as an unwelcome gift to the player whose card was matched and goes to the top of their pile face up.
5. Dealer turns the next top card in the stack face up and the game carries on until the cards run out.
And the winner? The one with the fewest cards of course!
The game has been trialled by the team at our local pub and its fair to say, we all enjoyed... Merry Christmas!
