Inspired by the success of the British Transplant Games held in Newport this Summer, we were keen to find a sporting challenge for the aspiring athletes in the Icon team. So, when our Business Engagement Manager, Susannah discovered Jehu Group's Wales Property Triathlon, it was the perfect fit; a 500m pool swim for herself, a 20k bike ride for our Project Manager Karen and a 5k run for Graphic Designer Amy, with all money raised going to Carers Trust, a fantastic charity that supports unpaid carers in Wales.
We took part as both competitors and as one of the proud sponsors of the event, and in true community spirit joined forces with Dean, Deputy Managing Director at Westdale Press to form our team after our cyclist and Project Manager Karen suffered a hip fracture. With Susannah’s extensive open water swimming experience, Dean’s world traveling cycling adventures and Amy’s slow and steady running style, we were set for success.
Despite relentless rain at the start of the event, the Icon team performed brilliantly coming 15th out of 50 teams competing, with lightning quick transition times and solid performances all round. We enjoyed it so much, we’ve already started planning our teams and training for next year’s event!
